Pant Y Rhedyn is a detached, split-level stone cottage sitting pretty on a working farm in Abbeycwmhir, Powys. Those Welsh countryside views are absolutely jaw-dropping - you'll spend half your holiday just staring out the windows. It's the kind of place that makes you forget your phone password.

The location is properly rural. Peaceful doesn't begin to cover it. You're surrounded by rolling hills and farmland where sheep outnumber people by about 10,000 to 1. Perfect for walking, cycling, or just sitting outside with a drink pretending you're in a BBC period drama.

About Pant Y Rhedyn

The location is properly rural. Peaceful doesn't begin to cover it. You're surrounded by rolling hills and farmland where sheep outnumber people by about 10,000 to 1. Perfect for walking, cycling, or just sitting outside with a drink pretending you're in a BBC period drama. The hot tub is positioned for maximum view-gawping - nothing beats bubbling away with a glass of something while watching the sunset over the hills.

The accommodation is split between the main cottage and an annex. The main house has four bedrooms: an attic king-size, first-floor double, first-floor twin and a ground-floor twin that converts to a super-king. There are two shower rooms with walk-in showers. The annex adds another double bedroom with en-suite, extra lounge with Smart TV and kitchenette. The games room will save your sanity when the kids get bored or the adults get competitive after too much wine.

Nearby Rhayader (9.2 miles) has shops, pubs and the spectacular Elan Valley. The Red Kite Feeding Centre lets you watch these massive birds swoop down for lunch - better than any restaurant view. The Gigrin Farm Wildlife Centre is perfect for nature lovers. Abbey-Cwm-Hir Hall offers fascinating tours of a Victorian mansion.

Pant Y Rhedyn works for everyone - families with kids who'll love the play area, couples seeking peace and groups wanting quality time together. The welcome hamper is legendary according to reviews!

Pant Y Rhedyn Reviews

The photos do not do this property justice and the history of the house made it unique. We were able to switch off from life itself for just a short while. Everything had been carefully considered, the hamper on arrival was more than generous and the location was near to perfect. We will certainly be returning soon with the other half of the family. Thank you.
Louise
We had a wonderful stay. The house is gorgeous with the most amazing views. We were made up with the lovely welcome hamper. Thank you so much for a perfect stay. We would love to come back again.
Cottage was breathtaking the minute we arrived we where blown away by the view, the hot tub with beautiful views and the cottage itself was even more perfect than appear in photos. We came away for my mums 60th birthday with 5 adults and 5 children and our dog and can trully say each of us had the a lovely time enjoying the views, the cottage, the play areas and games room and the grounds in which our dog loved exploring couldn't fault a thing. The rooms where clean with plenty of towels the kitchen had plenty of utensils in which we where able to make a roast dinner and the welcome basket was an extra gesture with bottle of wine, teabags, local eggs in which we enjoyed with our cooked breakfast and much more even down to the dog treats. Thank you for helping us make memory's which will last a life, we will definitly be returning and would highly recommend to anyone considering booking. Jenny

The property was amazing but just a few things let it down a little. The bathrooms are definitely in need of a refurb and even possibly changing one into a bath. Not enough large utensils in the kitchen. For instance there wasnt a utensil to flip eggs so that was fun haha. Maybe mentioning the steps in the property on your listing, as we chose this due to a groundfloor bedroom as my mum cant do steps, had we of known it had steps we may not have booked the place, but she did manage. But we did enjoy our stay it was fantastic just a few things we feel could have made it a little bit better

What a great place to stay and enjoy your Holiday! !! Nature, views, area everything was great. Definitely recommending to friends to go there for some time off!
Robert
We had a fantastic time . The children got up in the morning straight down to the play area in pyjamas.they loved it didnt want to go home. Its lovely and homely, very clean , plenty of room . The games room was well used as was the hot tub would definitely go again brilliant.
Amazing property set to in a beautiful location. Comes with everything you need and the welcome basket and message is a lovely touch. We had a fantastic weekend and made great use of the jacuzzi and game room. Accommodation comes with plenty of fridge and freezer space which was needed for 10 adults staying so that was a big bonus to save extra trips to the shops. Property was nice and clean and clear instructions left on how to use kitchen and house appliances and process for checking out. Only feedback for the owners would be to add an instruction sheet for setting the jacuzzi, this would be handy for those that havent used one before.
Beautiful home, had a lovely weekend with the family! I have been recommending this home to family and friends. Will definitely be back!
Great weekend in a beautiful location. Could not fault the property and would definately recommend it to others. Only had one problem where the hot tub temperature reduced, however one phone call and ten minutes later the owner arrived and fixed the problem. Only negative would be the check in time 4.00 and check out time 10.00 which would be better if the check in time was 2.00 and check out 12.00. However this appears to be the same for all properties for let. Overall a great weekend had with our family celebrating our sons 18th birthday in a beautiful location. Forgot to mention the kites birds flying overhead every day which was quite spectacular
Francisco
The only word I can use to describe the property is awesome. It was perfectly ordered, clean, tidy, spacious, and extremely confortable. We had everything we need and even extra and nice features of the house that werent expecting. The hot tub was an amazing plus for the property, the view from there was just like the movies and it isnt a joke. We went during winter and even on this season, we really enjoyed going for a walk in the surroundings because the landscape is just unreal. I truly want to thank the hosts for making up one of the best stays in our lifes!
Rachel
We were thrilled that the house was as clean, comfortable and rustic as ever but over the moon to see that the games room had been updated. Really shows opinions being taken on board and we loved using it during our stay. Im not sure whether it was there at our last stay or if we just discovered it this time
Vivian
Lovely cottage, bigger than what we thought, amazing views

We had a great stay with 8 of us and 2 dogs. The facilities were great and the views from the hot tub were amazing. It was snowing which made it even better. The games room was great and plenty of space for 8 people. Will definitley be returning

Beautiful stay over Xmas & new year with family. Views are amazing. Very homely feel.
Firstly this property is absolutely stunning, the most idyllic views. When we turned up the place was nice and warm and a hamper had been left for us. A lovely touch. We had arrived a bit early but the keys were in the safe and property was vacant. We did need to contact the owners Adam and Laura just to ask where the fifth bedroom was as it was an annexe around the side. We used the hot tub on the Friday and when we went to go back in on the Saturday noticed a bad smell and the water had gone green. Called them out and we were asked 'what have you done, what's happened to it' It was emptied and refilled with hot water. Once it was full we went back in for a short time. On the Sunday morning we checked on it and that bad smell was back again. When they came back for a second time my friend who has a hot tub herself asked them how often the levels were checked and what chemicals were used. She was told that it was down to her 'friends' abusing it on the Friday night which is just ridiculous as it wasn't damaged. The bromine level wasn't right and it can turn the water. She was also told we hadn't showered before going in and my friend said how do you know that and was told we had said we hadn't. An absolute blatant lie as that conversation didn't happen. Our swim wear and towels had to be washed twice as we couldn't get rid of the smell. It was also mentioned to Adam that there is no lighting outside for when you get in and out of the tub. My friend slipped on the steps. There were two lights fitted but not working that I could seee. Surely there should be security lights for when people were outside. Anyway, one again the water was emptied and this time cleaned at the bottom before being refilled. A third visit was made to check on the levels. This all takes time so again we only got to use it a short time that night. We then came home the following morning. When we book these properties it's mostly because of the hot tub and not to be able to get the full use was disappointing. Moreso being called liars and blamed for the water was unfair. I feel if it wasn't for my friend knowing as much as she did and asking questions the outcome would've been different. It's a shame a bad taste has been left as this place really is gorgeous. I want to also mention a light bulb had been broken on the Friday which we offered to pay for on the Saturday but was told it was ok. The property was left clean and tidy on the Monday morning as we had found it.
Great cottage for big party. Games room is really good. Cottage was really nice and very clean with plenty of room. Laura the host was amazing as the electrics tripped during the night so we had no hot water, but Laura visited straight away the next day and got it all back working. The hot tub was great on the first night, the electrics tripped it so it was not hot for the second day so could not use. However, on the morning of leaving it was back to the correct temperature so unfortunate that the electrics tripped.
We had a lovely weekend stay here 22nd25th sept for my hubby s 40 th birthday . The cottage is beautiful the surrounding and views are beautiful . Plenty of space we were a party of 8 adults and had plenty of space . A lovely welcome hamper on arrival also. Myself and another member of the group went on a lovely walk on the Saturday afternoon. The hot tub is amazing again with stunning views. Literally in the middle of no where. And that s what we wanted ! A lovely peaceful weekend. We are going to be booking again for my birthday in February.
Hannah
Lovely place! Loads of room for a big group and the view from the hot tub is spectacular! Would stay again
Melanie
Lovely property. Comfortable and spacious. The views, gardens and location are spectacular. The hot tub is large and the view is glorious. The children and the adults loved the games room.
Lorraine
This was a real find, down a beaten track the cottage was magical and the views were to die for. We met the owners who were lovely and totally accommodating. The cottage was clean and had everything we could ask for even the weather!!! we came for a couple of family birthdays and enjoyed playing board games and splashing about in The jacuzzi which made for many a photo opportunity. If there was one criticism it would be the amount of wasps and flies, although within our group I was the only person that was stung. I know that this can't be helped and nothing at all to do with the property however we googled that peppermint oil repels them so would recommend that anyone visiting in the summerhot months take some oilspray and anti sting spray.
Jessica
WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY. Id strongly, strongly advise not to book this property. Unfortunately our stay overall was not great. We paid nearly 900 to stay for 2 nights and based on our experience, wouldnt even have paid half of this amount. There were a couple of minor issues that we werent satisfied with for the price. For example, there were 2 and a half toilet rolls in the entire property for 9 girls staying for a long weekend. We were told that because it was self catered, we should have brought our own. I personally dont believe self catered should mean you arent provided with toilet roll? Especially when youre in the middle of nowhere. Secondly the big issue we had wasps There was a SEVERE wasp problem here. Someone was unable to stay in the end because she is severely allergic and can go into anaphylactic shock. I appreciate wasps outside are out of anyones control, but after complaining, one of the owners came to take a look and agreed with us that the wasps were so bad in and around close perimeters to the property and it shouldnt be like this. He was even sometimes laughing at us running away from the wasps whilst we were trying to talk to him. They were so bad, one wasp flew straight down our friends throat and she had to make herself vomit, was in extreme pain, and 2 weeks later, she still has burst blood vessels in her eye. Another friend fell down a ledge and cut her leg because she was being pestered by them. We cant stand, walk or sit in the same place for too long. The perimeter of the house and the inside should not be infested the way it is. The house is full of them, even when we made a conscious effort to keep windows and doors shut they were still getting in. Weve noticed you have wasp killer spray in which also tells us owners were perhaps aware of the problem. We also imagine they were aware of the problem because the property was being cleaned 2 hours prior to our arrival and we strongly believe that the owners would have encountered the wasps then. This isnt the first time weve booked through Sykes cottages, it isnt the first time weve stayed in a rural cottage before and weve never encountered an infestation like this before. Were extremely disappointed that this wasnt mentioned to us prior to arrival. Like Ive already said, a friend couldnt even stay in the end. Were currently going through a complaints procedure. This has ruined the entire experience and unfortunately the owners have pretty much aired our messages since we returned home and are not prepared to take it further with us. They say its completely out of their control and seem to not care that our experience was ruined now that they have taken our money. Even though this is a freak situation, we believe this could have been handled better. Im aware if anyone books this property, perhaps in autumnwinter they arent likely to have a wasp problem. However, Id still book with caution because if you do end up with some sort of problem, from our experience, Im not confident that the owners would be willing to rectify and help to make your experience better. In fact, they may even ignore your texts when you get home like us
Jasmine
This was an amazing property for a get together with friends. Big space! Hot tub and views are fantastic and the little welcome pack was such a nice touch. It was in such a great location Away from the busy towns and cities and the cottage had everything we needed. Just absolutely perfect!

We had an amazing 3 night stay. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and the pictures dont do justice to the stunning gardens. Such a peaceful relaxing place to stay, we loved the view from the hot tub! The welcome basket was such a lovely touch! We loved every minute of it and would love to come back again soon.
The cottage was excellent and very well maintained. Plenty of room for everyone to have there own space if required. The views were amazing we had such a wonderful family weekend away. Would highly recommend staying there, we are looking at when we can return
This property was amazing! ! The views were incredible. We had a lovely welcome package left for us which was totally unexpected from Laura and Adam and we felt very at home. Any issues we knew we could contact them and they got back to us very quickly. It was a great idea having the welcome book too with lots of helpful information including day trips and places to eat!! Thank you for allowing people into your holiday cottage, its a great place to unwind and relax. It was the perfect spot I was looking for to celebrate my 30th birthday with loved ones. Emma
Samantha
We have just had a wonderful stay at this cottage. We were a family party of 8 which included two teenage children in this group and a dog. We also hired the annex which meant there was plenty of space for everyone. The cottage was well equipped, comfortable and has spectacular views. The cottage is very remote, but with a good games room and hot tub there was plenty to keep us occupied of an evening. Highly recommend this cottage.
Agnieszka
Remote cottage, lovely hot tub and games room. Brilliant communication with the hosts, nothing seemed too much trouble. Very nice welcoming basket. The property needed some minor things but nothing at affected our trip. Property was layed out perfectly, no clutter, which was great as we were traveling with a toddler. Would reccomend and would come back, with more people next time as its a big property so great for several families or friend groups.

We had a great stay with 8 of us and 2 dogs. The facilities were great and the views from the hot tub were amazing. It was snowing which made it even better. The games room was great and plenty of space for 8 people. Will definitley be returning

A lovely property, great views, great character and wonderful owners
Heulwen
Beautiful home set in stunning countryside. A great place for family get together ,with enough space and large dining area . Hot tub is over looking the views across the valley.
Rachel
We absolutely loved our stay at Pant y Rhedyn! We loved the information about the property history and the welcome basket and board was a lovely personal touch! The only thing we would say is that the pool table & dartboard could do with a bit of an update. The pool table green was slightly ripped and so we didn't really use that. Other than this, would absolutely reccomend to friends & family! Thank you!
Deborah
We had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The hot tub was fantastic and when we used it after dark we saw shooting stars and the space station. My grandson loved the games room.
Stephen
There were 8 of us that stayed at the house this year. The kitchen, rooms and bedrooms were all of a suitable size to host this number and the kitchen in particular was well provisioned with cooking utensils and basic bits. The house is situated in large gardens with a woodland area around a more formal cottage garden. This garden could be superb if work was done to bring it back to its former life and after speaking to the owners, this is scheduled for later this year. Kids will love this part. The hot tub was great and has stunning views of the area and the constant red kites that flew ahead in the valley a real treat. The garden furniture could be upgraded as parts are broken but perfectly fine to use. You are around a 20 minute drive from several walks of various degrees of difficulty one on the national protected area which will take about an hour 30 and the other, around the dam which is about 3 hours long. Overall, fantastic house in a great location for nature and wildlife. Laura and Adam were also really helpful and responsive.
We had a fantastic time at Pant y Rhedyn, the cottage was lovely, the views were fantastic and the kids loved the play room. The owners were really accommodating, allowing us to push back our arrival date due to illness. The only slight downside was that we couldnt find the BBQ but we cooked everything up on the Rayburn and hob so all was well. Thanks so much for a fanatic stay and the amazing welcome basket. We will definitely be staying again
Andrew
Great views and really enjoyed the stay.
What a lovely place, what a lovely area. The rooms were individually styled and wonderfully comfortable. The local roads are, in the main, single track and difficult to navigate, not for the faint hearted! Local towns take 15 mins or more to drive to, but with great amenities, two fridges, two freezers, stock up, winddown, kick back and enjoy the stunning view from the hot tub.
