Pen Y Maes Reviews

Carina
We had the most relaxing stay. The property and location are just perfect. The host family are some of the most genuine and lovely people we've had the pleasure to meet. The warm and welcoming hospitality is continued in the fabulous pub just around the corner. We enjoyed some great meals and tasty pints at very reasonable prices. There are lots of very pretty walks from the door or a short drive away. Our dog had a great holiday too and was completely safe in the well enclosed garden. He enjoyed watching the sheep in the neighboring field and we delighted in identifying the multitude of birds feasting at the feeders in the garden.
Got nothing really to add, other than I've never experienced tilt doors before and they freaked me out because I thought I'd broken the back door within two minutes of entering the place on my doors you turn the handles up to lock them. Should have read the visitor guide before going outside!
Fabulous large property beautifully maintained, everything you could need. Hot tub a great addition, Owner left home made cake for us on arrival. Garden well fenced in for our dog Great location, nice pub a few minutes walk away. Absolutely nothing to fault with it, will definitely revisit
Deborah
Spacious, clean, warm, comfortable, well equipped, beautiful home from home. Wonderful, large, wellmaintained hot tub. Gorgeous gardens where you can watch the garden, and woodland birds. Fantastic location for walking the wonderful Welsh hills. The pub is literally around the corner and serves a great Sunday lunch. We loved being able to take our furry friend. Thank you Delyth for the excellent Victoria sponge which we received upon arrival. I would highly recommend this property.
We had a lovely stay at Pen Yr Maes. Tucked away in a beautiful part of Wales, it was peaceful and relaxing. The property was ideal for us with a 3 year old and a baby. Our 3 year old loved running around the house and with it being on one level we knew he was safe. The property is spacious and comfortable and really felt like a home from home. The hot tub was an added benefit too! A short walk to the local pub for Sunday lunch, which was inviting and friendly, was very much enjoyed. Overall a wonderful little break before we continued our holiday in South Wales.
Michelle
We had the most relaxing stay, absolute bliss. Arrived to gorgeous flowers and a home made cake which was a real treat. We didnt have the best weather but still managed to get out and do lots of walking, the area is beautiful. The house was perfect, very cosy with the woodburner. Lovely garden, totally enclosed for the dogs and the hot tub was amazing. We ate at the pub a couple times great food and very friendly. We loved it here and wouldn't have changed a thing, can't wait to return. Thanks again Delyth for being such a welcoming host.
A lovely, spacious, very clean place. We really enjoyed our stay.
Samantha
Lovely spacious cottage in a good location for dog walks. The home made cake on arrival was a lovely treat and didnt last long!!! Nice big garden which gets plenty of sun, and the pub is literally around the corner with good food and beers. The kids now want us to buy a massive hot tub!!!
Gareth
Perfect holiday for us gents.
Exceeded our expectations. Peaceful and relaxing
Joanne
The bungalow and its surroundings were even better than our already high expectations! We found the bungalow immaculate with everything you could possibly need. The gardens surrounding the property are well kept with stunning views from every direction. We found it so peaceful with only the distance sounds of the sheep. Our dog loved it too as it was completely enclosed with so much for her to explore. The hot tub is huge which we enjoyed each evening admiring the views. The Seven Stars Pub is literally at the bottom of the drive and as it is also dog friendly, we ate there several times and thought the food was very good. We visited Llewellyns Cave, Elan Valley and Builth Wells which is the nearest town. I would say remember to take your basics such as bread and milk etc as there are no shops in a short walking distance. On arrival there was a freshly made cake and a beautiful bunch of flowers to greet us which we thought was such a lovely added touch. We didnt meet the owners apparently our dog did however they are at hand if needed just very discreet. We enjoyed having breakfast each morning watching so many bird species on the feeder and in the garden. We were sad to leave and are definitely hoping to return.
Jeffrey
Hello the Powell family obviously a well presented property with a well maintained hot tub we would employ your painter if we lived nearer, a few hiccups but they were put right immediately. I'm sure everyone says we will come again and hopefully we can to, great enclosed area for our Ryley, enjoyed the pub, the walk to Llwellyns cave, the castle remains almost in the back garden and of course the bungalow and somehow we always have pleasant weather. Happy farming. Thank you.
The house is very spacious, clean and well equipped. The views from all rooms are beautiful. The information booklet is excellent for the house issues and for advice about the area. It is a property in a calm and relaxing place, ideal for a holiday for all ages.
Exceptionally clean house. We thought the information pack and especially the laminated wifi information was a thoughtful touch as were the fresh flowers and baked scones. Couldn't fault this accommodation or location and would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Claire
We enjoyed such a relaxing stay at Pen Y Maes. The bungalow was warm, clean and welcoming. The owners were friendly, approachable and on hand if needed. It was very spacious, giving us lots of space to spread out important with teenagers! and the enclosed garden was perfect for the dog. Hot tub was very warm and a nice bonus. The surrounding countryside was incredibly peaceful and we enjoyed some lovely local walks around the village. We loved our stay here and would love to return.
This was our third visit. As always the bungalow was immaculately clean and every item you would need was thought of. It's like home from home. Our dog enjoyed staying too, there are walks from the garden which is good for dogs that are reactive to cars. Just be mindful of the sheep that graze there, so dogs must be on a lead. The garden is full of birds, many that we don't see at home. It would of been nice to have sat ours if The weather had been better. The hot tub was a bonus and seen to everyday, we never saw anyone come, they are that discrete. Thank you for a lovely break
Christine

Had a lovely stay at Pen y Maes. Everything you could need was provided. Beds were comfortable, place soon warmed up with central heating and a wood burner. Great kitchen and powerful showers. Hot tub was great and a lovely enclosed garden for the dog to run around in. Loads of birds in the garden to watch was an added bonus along with the welsh cakes on arrival. Hosts sent us a welcome message and we knew they would be available if we needed anything but they did not intrude on us. Perfect holidsy really and we shall be booking again in the future.
Louise
Its a fabulous spacious bungalow with a well appointed kitchen The hot tub is super and its bigger than some hotel ones. Looking out over the fields while having a soak, bliss. The local pub is a community pub, its open every day, does lovely home cooked food and is only 100yds away.
Outstanding bungalow, beautiful gardens and glorious hot tub. Very spacious home from home really cant fault anything about our stay here I could have easily moved in forever. Beds are super comfy and every room immaculate. Every window in the property is like looking at an amazing picture views landscape garden are just beautiful. Had another great stay at pen y maes, what we love best is the cleanliness of the bungalow then following outside to the beautiful garden filled with birds and wildlife that we haven't seen in ages. Thank you Delyth
A beautiful bungalow in such a tranquil setting lovely safe garden for the dogs ... A beautiful bungalow in such a tranquil setting lovely safe garden for the dogs a minutes walk to the nearest pub what more could you wish for I would highly recommend this property
Jennifer
Hidden little gem. Spotlessly clean, great facilities and most importantly comfortable beds.
Christine
The property is very nice and in a super location but garden neglected. Grass not cut, lots of long thistles and weeds and bushes that look like they not been strimmed for ages and blocking view. The shower in en suite far too small. Anyone over 10 stone would struggle to get in. Also cottage listed for six people but only four seats in lounge.
Alison
Perfect cottage for our relaxing girly weekend There was plenty of room, lovely layout, plenty of towels, gorgeous hot tub, just everything we needed. Lovely pub at the end of the short lane too. Thank you Delyth x
Lorraine
Could not have asked for more the property is absolutely beautiful and so are the surroundings, if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time then this property is the one for you. Completely dog friendly the garden is secure and there is the bonus of the hot tub what more could you want
Carmen
Fantastic location, bedrooms perfect, 2 bathrooms great. Kitchen well set out with comfortable dining area. Living room spacious but sofa only suitable for 4 people, sofas not comfortable as you sink into them so I was unable to use as it affected my back and I couldn't get up. Kitchen needed oven baking tray and better knives as the knives weren't sharp. Bathroom shower tiles were mouldy and needed deep clean, as did windows around the property, probably due to condensation but hadn't been cleaned for a while especially the kitchen. Waste bin in kitchen was dirty inside although bin bag covers the dirt. A 10am checkout didn't justify the deep clean issues covid as didn't the 5pm checkin. 7 hours of cleaning didn't seem to represent the cleanliness of areas, especially as guests we had to strip bedding, etc. We would return as it is a beautiful place, lovely cake from the owner.
Hannah
Fantastic property in a beautiful location. Bungalow had everything we could of needed. Hot tub was a perfect addition. Owners were extremely helpful and flowers and cake on arrival were a beautiful bonus. Will definitely return.
Cottage was perfect, and very accurately described. Really pretty and private location with stunning surrounds. The hot tub was a real luxury and our kids loved it. The garden was also perfect and enclosed for our two dogs. Delyth also communicated amazingly with us when there was an issue with the drive up to the house on the first night and was really helpful. Definitely coming back!
Georgie
Absolutely beautiful bungalow, clean, spacious and very homely!
Very spacious, clean and well equipped bungalow. Flowers & home baked cake on arrival made it very welcoming. Garden totally enclosed so our terriers failed to escape! Spacious hot tub was much appreciated after days out walking. Excellent pub grub at the end of the lane was a bonus. Had a good night's sleep every night, so quiet and peaceful.
Caroline
Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.
Beautiful property in an extremely private and peaceful setting. Excellent base for visiting the surrounding area, the garden was great for our two dogs, and the hot tub perfect for us.
Steven
A beautiful property surrounded by beautiful and breathtaking scenery. The proximity of a quality pub was much appreciated! Nice food and friendly staff is a bonus too. Pottery with Alex AllPress in Built highly recommended along with a relaxing boat trip on the Brecon canal with Dragonfly Cruises. The hot tub was a delight and extra touches such as a scrumptious cake and welcoming flowers just added to our enjoyment for the week. Plenty of home comforts so all you need to do is sit back and relax, take in a spot of bird watching and let the bubbles in the hot tub wash away your stresses! Thank you!
Christine
Had a wonderful stay at Pen Y Maes. Flowers and Victoria sponge were most welcoming. Lovely spacious property with everything we needed. Well kept enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. Good position for Builth Wells and surrounding area
